Water scarcity occurs when communities are
not able to fulfil their
water needs.

This unmet need is caused by two knotted phenomena. On the one hand, there is growing freshwater consumption: in fact, water use has increased at more than twice the rate of population growth in the last century. This level of intake also tends to be unsustainable, leading to significant Water Waste.

On the other hand, usable freshwater resources are becoming depleted due to inadequate local ecological conditions, which are often a seasonal phenomenon.
